 We had a wonderful farewell celebration today for our Grade Fours. Thank you so much to our parent volunteers who helped decorate the hallway. Thank you to all of the parents who were able to make it here to help us celebrate, and thank you to all the wonderful parents for raising such amazing children!  Good afternoon,  Here are some highlights from last week: Math: We focused on Geometry and Angles. So far we've done a review of polygons (sides, angles, vertices), and geometric properties. Then we learned about angles (acute, obtuse, right and straight) and their relationships and how to use a protractor to measure angles. We also learned about complementary and supplementary angles. Ask your child if they can explain all of this to you! Literacy: We focused on synonyms and antonyms. We learned a bit more about poetry. We practiced our quick writes. Ask your child how many words they were able to write in 15 minutes.  Social Studies: We learned about the Fathers of Confederation. So far we have learned about Sir John A. Macdonald and Sir George Etienne-Cartier.  Good afternoon,  Reminder: Next week we will begin Alien In-line Skating again. Our skate days are: Tuesday June 9, Wednesday June 10 and Monday June 15. Here are some highlights of our week: Math: We finished our study of fractions, percentages, and decimals. We brought home our finished work booklet to study for our test on Monday June 8. Our Mad Minutes this week were simplifying fractions.  Literacy: We finished practicing our poem for the volunteer tea and recorded it to show the parents. We learned about homophones. Homophones are two (or more) words that sound the same, but have different spellings and meanings. For example: blue, blew, sail, sale, bear, bare, deer, dear, by, buy, bye, there, their, they're.  We learned how to write couplets. Couplets are two line poems, each line has to have the same amount of syllables and they rhyme at the end. For example: I love the rain, but it's a pain.  In Daily Five, we did quick writes.
