Friday May 8
Good afternoon,
We enjoyed our community walk today. From now until the end of the year, since the weather is nicer, we may go for community walks from time to time. If you have plans to pick your child up early from school, or bring them late, please be sure to let us know so we can ensure your child is not on a walk at that time.
Here are some highlights from our week:
Wellness:
We have spent time learning about personal responsibility and respect.
We learned about the four steps to accepting consequences for our actions (positive and negative) 1. Say "Thank you" if you are being rewarded. 2. If you get in trouble, say "okay" in a calm voice and don't argue. 3. If you feel upset, use a preferred calming tool. 4. Follow instructions from an adult for how to make things better.
Math:
- finished addition and subtraction of decimal place value. Here is an example of a word problem we worked on and should be able to solve:
Literacy:
- we learned about similes
- we learned how to compare adjectives (big, bigger, biggest)
- we learned what metaphors are
Science:
- we are learning about living organisms. Ask your child if they can tell you what makes something living.
- we learned how scientists classify living organisms
- we learned about the structures of plants (roots, stem, leaves, flowers, fruit, seeds)
- we planted marigolds to learn about the structures of plants

Food Support
Did you know that the Breakfast Club of Canada has shared research demonstrating that 40% of Alberta’s children experience food insecurity? This means that 4 out of 10 children do not have access to food when they are hungry.
If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.
Complete this form for support and they can deliver lunches to McKenzie Towne School for your children. https://go.bb4ck.org/l/858913/2024-01-15/38fdbw You can also find out more information on their website https://bb4ck.org/
