Friday April 10
Good afternoon,
Thank you for reading our blog. Here are some highlights of what we worked on this week:
Math:
We've been working on Decimal Place Value. We have learned to order decimal numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. We also learned how to round decimal numbers. We talked about how decimals are related to measurement and money. We played a game with cards called Decimal Place Value Battle. Ask your child how to play.
Literacy:
We have been doing a Book Club with the book Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner. So far we have read one chapter. We have written predictions about what will happen, and each group of students has worked on their own task: Art Director, Discussion Director, Opinion Director, Dictionary Directory, Summary Director and Prediction Director. Ask your child which one they have done so far.
We did a lesson about "juicy words" (adjectives) with our student teacher, Ms. Knutson. We turned boring words (such as happy, bad, nice, big, good, pretty) into more exciting words. We will be using these words more regularly in our written work.
We learned about conjunctions. A conjunction is: a linking word that joins two basic sentences together to form one more descriptive sentence. Some conjunctions include: and, but, also, or, nor, so, because, yet.
Science:
Ms. Knutson has taught us about constellations and the phases of the moon. We also learned about the lunar calendar. Constellations are a group of stars that form a picture in the night sky. We can only see certain ones depending on where you live, what season it is. In the Northern Hemisphere, we can always see the Big Dipper. There are about 88 constellations in total. We got to re-create some constellations using marshmallows and toothpicks.

If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.
